It’s December and that means it’s time for some Christmas blogs. I’m going to start with a couple of projects I made years ago, the ornament tree and cupcake ornaments. They have lasted forever and are still some of my favorite Christmas decorations!
Cupcake Ornaments
As everyone knows, I love cupcakes and when I got to decorate my own tree, I decided I wanted to make it very girly and themed. So I found this idea to make cupcake ornaments and decided that is what I would put on my tree.
Where to Buy the Supplies
- Clear Glass Ornaments (Michaels, JoAnne Fabrics)
- Cupcake Liners
- Glitter in Multiple Colors
- Colored Foam Balls for the Cherries
- Sparkle Modge Podge
- Elmers Glue and Hot Glue
How to Make the Cupcakes
These are actually pretty easy to make. I covered the whole ornament in glitter Modge Podge just to give it some sparkle. I let it dry and then took some Elmers glue and use a popsicle stick or other method to spread it on the top of the ornament to resemble frosting. Next, pick your color of glitter and spread it all over the glue until it is covered. Once that dries, glue on a cupcake liner and attach a colored foam ball to the top for a cherry and that’s it! You have cupcake ornaments. These are super cheap, easy to make and look awesome on the tree.

Ornament Tree
I saw these ornament trees in stores but at the time they were really expensive, so I decided to make my own. I will admit this cost a little more than I anticipated because the small ornaments were a little pricy. So now that these are everywhere, it might be cheaper to buy, but it is fun to make your own so you can choose your own colors and make it match the rest of your decor.
Where to Buy the Supplies
- Foam Cone in whatever size you want (JoAnne Fabrics, Michaels)
- Small Ornaments (Dollar Store, Michaels, Walmart)
- Foam Balls (I used small, white, sparkly foam balls to fill in extra space to keep the cost down)
- Hot glue
How to Make the Tree
This tree is super easy to make. Take the small ornaments and glue them all over the tree. I would pick one color and place it all over the cone to make sure the colors are spread out evenly before moving to the next color. Once all the ornaments are attached, I filled in the extra space with the foam balls. At the end, I attached some sparkly silver birds to the top as the topper. That’s it! You have an awesome Christmas decoration. These balls do fall off so I have to glue a few on every year, but it has still lasted for quite a while and I still love it!
